Outta Line's new self-titled CD is a collection of 14 songs which vary in styles that include Rock, Hard Rock, Acoustic Rock, Pop Rock, Blues and Country. These songs have been written over several years and recorded, or re-recorded recently, at Dave & Nicole's studio in Youngsville, using Cubase (recording software for computer). After they recorded all the tracks, the mixes were done there as well, except for Soul Mate. Soul Mate was remixed at Leap Studios in Lafayette. The final mastering was all done at Leap Studios by Paul Broussard. Once the master was complete, the band shipped it to DiscMakers in California to make the CD's. The artwork was done by Dave in Photoshop and sent online. The back of the CD case is a close-up picture of the custom teal blue Tele-style guitar that Dave built and stained in 2006. DiscMakers made the CD's, packaged them, and the shipment arrived in about 10 days.
20 Years Later - Bluesy comedic true rant about being with a girl for a long time, from a man's perspective. This song was recorded with Dave's Fender Deluxe USA Stratocaster, through his Fender Hot Rod Series NOS Lacquered Tweed Blues Jr. amp. This song features the whole band playing their parts. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Week Of Mondays - Rock song about how we live for things that motivate us to keep on going, but in the big picture, the adventure of traveling down the winding road of life is really the best part. This song was recorded with Dave's 1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard and Fender Deluxe Strat, through his Marshall TSL 100 head, through his Mesa Boogie 412 Recto Jumbo cab. Dave played all guitars and the bass line and arranged the drums on this recording. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Can't Wait To See You - Pop Rock song written when Dave was away from Nicole, and on the way home he was looking forward to seeing her again. This was recorded with Dave's Fender Deluxe Strat, through Hal Hollier's Marshall JVM 100, through Dave's Mesa cab. It was recorded when Dave's TSL was in the shop. Dave was trying Hal's amp out before buying his own JVM 205H head. The whole band played their own parts on this one, and Nicole sang backing vocals. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Sacrifice It All - Rock Ballad that Larry wrote the lyrics to when he was in California with the LA National Guard, training to go to Iraq. This is about the sacrifice that our military personnel make when they have to leave their families at home and go off to war. This song is specifically about Larry missing Ellen and the kids, but accepting the responsibility of a soldier. He sent the lyrics to Dave, who wrote all the music and arranged the song. Dave played guitar and bass. Larry played drums, and Nicole sang backing vocals on this one. It was recorded with the Les Paul through the Mesa Boogie F50 combo amp. (Lyrics by Larry Lawrence, music by Dave Andrew.)
Backyard Boogie - Upbeat Acoustic Rock song written while hanging out in the backyard with the dog, the kids, and an acoustic guitar. This song was recorded with a CA Legacy (Vintage voicing) acoustic electric guitar, straight to the mixing board. That guitar was made in Lafayette at Composite Acoustic Guitar Company, using the same composite material used on the space shuttles. An engineer who had worked at NASA started the guitar-building company. That guitar came out of the original plant, before they moved to their new facility. Dave played all instruments and arranged the drums on this song, and Nicole sang backing vocals. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Lies - Acoustic Rock song about the last two presidents getting caught in a lie about something; one resulted in embarrassment, and the other resulted in a lot of people dying. David Broussard helped with the music on this one, and he played one of the acoustic guitar tracks. All other guitar tracks, the lead, bass and drum arrangement by Dave Andrew. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
People - Heavy Rock / Metal Short Rant about how some people really just aggravate you. Dave asked his son Joey (who was 14 at that time) what kind of people really bothered him. Joey told Dave about some of the jocks in school who thought they were so cool, but really everyone just laughed at them because they were so stupid. Dave played all guitars and bass and arranged the drums on this one, and Joey Andrew sang backing vocals. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Hollow Eyes - Rock song about the look in the kids' eyes in Iraq; and about our soldiers bringing them some hope, and not going there to hurt them. Larry wrote the lyrics to this one after traveling from Kuwait to Baghdad. They made that trip in vehicles that were not properly armored. In fact, they added any metal sheeting they could find to the vehicles to make them as safe as possible. This song was recorded with a Line 6 Floor Pod XT Live and Dave's teal blue Custom Tele. Dave played the drums and guitars, and Bobby Boudreaux played the bass. Kane Ard and Carla Ard sang backing vocals on this one. (Lyrics by Larry Lawrence, music by Dave Andrew.)
Wondering - Pop Rock song that Larry wrote the lyrics to while serving his country in Iraq. This one was recorded with the Fender US Highway One Strat and the Line 6 Floor Pod XT Live. Dave played drums, bass, and all guitars on this one. (Lyrics by Larry Lawrence, music by Dave Andrew.)
One Dollar Dog - Country song about a dog. Dave saw an ad in the paper when he and Nicole were living in San Diego. It read, "AKC Registered Yellow Lab, $1". Coming from Louisiana and knowing how much those dogs go for around here, he thought that was a deal! Well, Dave went to get the dog in his company van, and the guy's apartment had poop stains all over the carpet. He gave Dave the dog and didn't even ask for the $1. On the way home, the dog pooped all over the back of the van. That night, the dog jumped the fence in the yard and tore a big hole in his side. Some people from down the street brought him back to Dave & Nicole. They had to bring him to the vet, and that cost a couple hundred dollars. Then the dog kept jumping the fence to escape, so they had to replace the old fence with a 6-foot fence. That cost another couple hundred. Then he would jump to the top of that fence and climb over it! So Dave added some wire fencing above that, which finally kept him in. He tried to eat the neighbors' cat, but left it alive, so that cost them another vet bill. ($444 later, and the poor cat didn't survive anyway.) He was really a good dog, but just didn't want to be confined at all. Sometimes the dog would escape the yard while Dave was at work, and he would come home to see the dog sitting right in front of the gate, on the outside. When Nicole and Dave moved back to Louisiana, they ended up giving him to a family that had a 40-acre farm, and he was very happy to live unconfined there. They visited the dog a few times, but eventually those people moved, and they lost contact. The whole band played their parts on this song, and Nicole sang backing vocals. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Soul Mate - Blues song about Nicole and Dave's connection. She is his soul mate, and he has no doubt they were meant to be together. Recorded with Dave's Gibson Les Paul, Marshall TSL, and Mesa cab. The guitar parts were played all on one channel, using pickup switching and guitar volume adjustments to achieve the different tones. This is the way many blues players do it, instead of channel switching. This is the only song that was remixed at Leap Studios. It had some popping issues in the mix down process and had to be remixed. Dave played guitars and bass and arranged the drums on this one. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Let It Go - Rock song about finding a girl that you are really attracted to, and letting yourself fall in love with her because this girl is right for you. Recorded with the Gibson Les Paul and US Highway One Strat, through Mesa Boogie F50 combo amp and line 6 Floor Pod XT live. Dave played drums and guitars, and Bobby Boudreaux played bass on this one. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Little Woman - Blues/ Rock song about Nicole. This was the first song Dave ever wrote about Nicole, a long time ago in California. Dave played drums, guitar and bass on this one. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
Flower Bed - Heavy Rock / Metal Short Rant about politicians. Dave played all guitars and bass and arranged the drums on this one. Les Paul through Marshall TSL 100. (Lyrics and music by Dave Andrew.)
